The BDA has said that the increasingly visible impacts of extreme weather across the UK have highlighted growing pressures facing communities, food producers and the wider food system.
These visible impacts include prolonged drought, extreme heat and devastating wildfires. It said:
“These events underscore the importance of building a more resilient and sustainable food system. Food security cannot be taken for granted, and the challenges posed by climate change are likely to have long-term implications for food production and public health. Access to affordable, nutritious food is fundamental to good health, yet growing pressures on the food system risk widening existing health inequalities.”
This comes as the BDA joined up with more than 100 food system leaders in writing to the Prime Minister calling for A Good Food Bill to make food a national priority, alongside energy, health and defence.
