The Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) published its latest recommendations on non-sugar sweeteners (NSS) on the 2nd of April 2025.

For younger children, SACN recommends:

  • Not giving them drinks sweetened with sugar or NSS
  • Giving them unsweetened food (not sweetened with either sugar or NSS)

It says pre-school children should get used to drinking water instead, though sweeteners may help older children cut down on sugar.
