An NHS manager has been accused of selling children’s gummies allegedly laced with undeclared levels of a prescription-only sleeping drug.

Advertised by Nutrition Ignition as magnesium glycinate gummies for children, especially those with ADHD and autism, the product allegedly contains significant levels of melatonin, a prescription-only hormone used for sleep problems. The sale of the Chinese-manufactured gummies has now been stopped from all platforms except eBay on after a year of trading.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) was contacted by two mothers who had bought the product online for their children and had suspicions around the product’s ingredients.

Sally Westcott, the owner of Nutrition Ignition, whose other job is a clinical therapy lead at Epsom and St Helier NHS trust, said she was complying with the investigation and has denied knowingly selling a prescription-only substance.
