Nutrition and Hydration Week returns for its 15th year from Monday 15 to Sunday 21 March 2027, and organisers are celebrating with a call for scone recipes from health and social care teams.

Organisations across the UK and worldwide, including teams in Australia, Canada, Spain and Qatar, are expected to take part in the week. As in previous years, Wednesday 17 March will be dedicated to Afternoon Tea, giving staff and the people they care for a chance to enjoy cake and scones together.

The new competition invites teams to demonstrate their culinary skill, creativity and innovation, with the aim of leaving a lasting legacy and inspiring good practice across the sector. Entrants can submit recipes in either or both of two classes:

  • Class One – Scones: recipes for sweet and/or savoury scones, including regional or international variations.
  • Class Two – Allergen-Free Scones: recipes for sweet and/or savoury scones free from all 14 allergens defined by the Food Standards Agency. Recipes in this class must also be vegan.

Entries will be judged on compliance with the class requirements, costed recipes, innovative ideas and presentation, and having fun with it.

Andy Jones, founder of Nutrition and Hydration Week, said: “Wednesday is a global focus through that most British of institutions, the Afternoon Tea. It appears to grab our colleagues overseas to join us in sharing and promoting good nutrition and hydration in health and social care around the globe, whilst having a bit of fun and providing a novel experience for the people they care for.”

Recipes and photographs should be emailed to nhweek@yahoo.co.uk by the closing date of Wednesday 18 November 2026.

Nutrition and Hydration Week aims to highlight, promote and celebrate improvements in nutrition and hydration provision locally, nationally and globally. To find out more, visit the Nutrition and Hydration Week website using the button below.
